What is the purpose of the red attachment on the arm?

Good question and ignore that previous writers answers as incorrect. We have been fitting and selling these valves for years Opella Flomasta et al... These valves are for HIGH and LOW pressure systems. They are factory defaulted with the HIGH Presure valve (a white one) the RED is for LOW pressure. So if your water feed is fed via a combi or mains and not from a tank in the loft all is fine, leave alone. If your water pressure is LOW i.e fed from a tank in the loft,, then unscrew the blue nut which houses the valve and rubber sealing ring, Change the white for the red. I really do not know. It is connected to a feed off the mains (west London) which has pressure varying from 1 to 3 bar. Hope this helps. Sorry about the delay in replying.
