A great entry level "audiophile" DAP
This looks and feels great. I have the silver one, nice weight and isn't flimsy. Has separate headphone out and line out which is great and handy. SOUND quality is fantastic. I had the Fiio X1 which is also a great little entry level DAP, but this blows it out the water. It makes the Fiio X1 sound congested and lacking in detail. The X3 has better bass, better separation of instruments and vocals, and very good with micro detailing. Bass - Punchy and accurate. Goes deep when required. The control is great, sometimes you can hear the bass guitar being plucked. Mids - Very detailed and no bass bloat. Highs - Sound accurate, sometimes can be a little artificial depending on the song. No sibilance, but again this depends on the song. Some songs will be sibilant regardless of source or even headphones. Wide soundstage, everything sits nice. Great positioning of instruments across the soundstage. What i like most is there is some air around instruments and vocals making everything sound detailed and musical. Does not mean songs are thin, they have nice body. This is an upgrade to the Fiio X1 in every way, even though it is cheaper! I've heard it is even better than the Fiio X3 which is double the price. Important - The user interface is very basic, and does take getting used to. Can be a bit difficult to see in direct sunlight. It has no equalizer, it relies on it's 6db Gain option. It gives it a nice neutral signature and I've not once thought I needed to equalize the sound. They have put a lot into it making it accurate to the artist's original presentation. Some people think neutral means flat, but this is still very musical. A bonus for me is it helped power my Sony MDR100AAP headphones and brought out their full potential. The bass control is amazing, as is the micro details i.e. those little things like singers breathing, guitars being plucked, music hidden in the background. Picks up much more than my Fiio X1 EVER did.

Bargain DAP
I wanted to pick up a cheap, high capacity player that plays FLAC files and was portable enough to take out running. I own a Creative Zen X-Fi and a Fiio X3 2nd Gen. Positives: - Well, the sound is very good; on a par with the Fiio and better than the Zen which sounds overdriven to my ears. The XDUOO provides a relaxed, easy listening experience that doesn't tire the listener. - The Operating System is very fast... the SD cards are selected without delay and no lag when you navigate. - Solid build quality. There is a lock button which seems to be a little loose but I can forgive this. - 2 SD Slots: great feature if like me you have loads of FLAC files. Negatives: - Unfortunately, if you want to navigate through artists and albums, you need to load your files up within with folders as the player won't allow you to select an album or artist if you just load all your music as individual files. This is OK for me, but I did need to clear my SD card after realising it wouldn't allow me to play albums when I loaded a bunch of FLAC files directly to the root directory. So if, like me, your music is in a folder for each artist and subfolders for albums, then just load them up like that and at least you have something approximating a usable interface. - The display is very hard to see when outdoors, and I'm not even talking about bright sunlight here. - The device doesn't allow you to queue your next album. This can be annoying if I'm out on a long run. - Gapless Playback isn't a feature which is a shame. I have noticed the odd clipping/ popping at the start of songs, but that could be down to the absence of gapless playback. Overall, this is a great DAP for the price. I can forgive the really basic UI 'cause what it does, it does perfectly well and the main thing is that it sounds great. Recommended.

Would like to add my review as I purchased the player ...
Would like to add my review as I purchased the player a week ago. I'm not a hardcore audiophile so I have no technical audio knowledge at all concerning depth, space, fidelity, etc. Just a person who's into listening music on his way to work. I’m used to listening music on my iPhone but I absolutely abhor iTunes and syncing. I wanted to just drag and drop my music so was debating between Xduoo X3, Fiio X1, Sony NWZA-15A and Sandisk clip. After a few online research, I decided the Xduoo X3 was the best compromise in price/quality. Besides Sony has its own syncing software and proprietary charging cable. Fiio was a little bit more expensive and the Sandisk clip doesn’t support 128gb micro SD cards. After listening a few albums on my X3, I can say it sounds pretty good but I only have my phone to compare it with. I love the dual micro SD card slots expandability as you could potentially have +256Gb of storage space and probably more when higher density cards are released. My two biggest gripes are the lack of bluetooth and screen brightness is very weak when outside in full sun. For audiophiles bluetooth is usually a no-go since quality suffers but for convenience it’s pretty cheap to install bluetooth features on any devices these days. So overall it can be a good repository for all your music collection because of the huge storage potential but don’t expect great ergonomics on the player. It’s a mixed bag for me, I’ll probably listen with it until something better comes along. Here are my Pros and Cons: Pros: - Dual micro SD slot supporting up to 128Gb - Good sound quality - Most audio format supported including lossless - Small and lightweight - Good build quality Cons: - Unintuitive navigating buttons - Menus are very basic - Screen very dim (almost invisible) in sunlight - Lack of bluetooth connection - only 8hrs battery life - Very slow delivery by seller (2 weeks minimum from China). NB. You can now install Rockbox to replace the firmware which offers better UI but I haven’t done so yet.
